Azra Nur Tutuncu, PhD, PE, PG

Dr. Tutuncu held various research and leadership assignments in Well Engineering, Rock Physics, Geomechanics and Subsurface R&D groups at Shell International Exploration and Production Company and Shell Oil Company in Houston and in the Netherlands before joining Colorado School of Mines faculty. Her interest areas include rock-fluid interactions, integrated borehole stability, geomechanics, reservoir characterization and formation damage detection, mitigation and removal.  Dr. Tutuncu has over two hundred publications in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings in addition to over one hundred reports in research and implementation of novel technologies in Deepwater Gulf of Mexico, Unconventional gas and oil shale, heavy oil sands and carbonates integrated borehole stability, in situ stress and rock property determination, nonlinear rock deformation and failure, pore pressure and fracture gradient prediction, stimulation, drilling and drill in fluid design and compatibility analysis.  She holds several patents on pore pressure prediction, attenuation and acoustic stimulation. Dr. Tutuncu is a member of SPE, SEG, Sigma Xi, ARMA, AADE and Pi Epsilon Tau and has been actively involved in SEG, SPE and ARMA organizations over twenty five years.  She is currently members of technical review committees in all three organizations, a member of AGI Environmental Geoscience Advisory Committee, and SEG Research and Global Affairs Committees. She served in the ARMA Executive Board (2006-2013) and is a Former President of American Rock Mechanics Association (2009-2011). Dr. Tutuncu is a member of the EPA Scientific Advisory Board on Hydraulic Fracturing Research since March 2013. She is licensed Professional Petroleum Engineer and Licensed Professional Geoscientist in the State of Texas.

Daisuke Katsuki
Petroleum Engineering, CSM

Dr. Daisuke Katsuki is currently a Research Fellow at Colorado School of Mines. He holds BS, MS and PhD degrees all from Yamaguchi University in Japan. His Ph.D. research involved the mechanical properties of bonded soils. Daisuke worked as a Research Associate at the Methane Hydrate Research Laboratory, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Japan between 2004 and 2009 on natural gas production from deep sea sediments containing gas hydrates. His current research interest is on the hydro-mechanical properties of unconventional shale gas/oil reservoirs specializing on the experimental testing and modeling of geomaterials under High Pressure and High Temperature Conditions (HPHT).

Binh Bui
Petroleum Engineering, CSM

Binh received his BS degree in Petroleum Engineering from Hanoi University of Mining and Geology (Vietnam) in 2008 and has been a faculty member there since then. He received his M.S degree in 2012 from McDougall School of Petroleum Engineering at The University of Tulsa and his PhD in 2016 in Petroleum Enginering from Colorado School of Mines. His research interests include coupled geomechanics and fluid flow modeling with rock-fluid interactions, wellbore hydraulics, rheology, reservoir characterization and simulation.

Olawale Adekunle
Petroleum Engineering, CSM

Olawale Adekunle is a PhD candidate in the petroleum engineering department at Colorado School of Mines and received his MS degree in the PE department at Mines in 2014. His prior research was focused on enhanced oil recovery applications in low permeability reservoirs and currently is exploring the opportunities and impacts that shale gas adsorption and fluid interactions in shale reservoirs. Wale holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering with oil and gas related experiences in project management and field operations in both onshore and offshore locations.

Shabeeb Al Ajmei
Petroleum Engineering, CSM

Shabeeb Alajmei is a PhD candidate in the Petroleum Engineering Department at Colorado School of Mines. He received a BS degree in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering from West Virginia University in 2012, and an MS degree in Natural Gas Engineering and Management from the University of Oklahoma in 2017. His professional work experience includes working as a reservoir engineer for Saudi Aramco and as a graduate assistant at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. Shabeeb’s research interests include geomechanics, hydraulic fracturing and EOR.

Aamer Abdulhakeem Albannay
Petroleum Engineering, CSM

Aamer Albannay is PhD student in Petroleum Engineering Department at Colorado School of Mines. He received his BS from Colorado School of Mines and MS from University of Southern California both in Petroleum Engineering. Before starting his graduate studies, he worked as a reservoir engineer for 3 years at ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company). His research interests include geomechanics, EOR and reservoir engineering.

Mohammed Althani
Petroleum Engineering, CSM

Mohammed Althani is a PhD student in Petroleum Engineering Department at Colorado School of Mines. He holds a BS in Petroleum Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia (2009) and an MS in Petroleum Engineering from Colorado School of Mines (2014). Mohammed has six years of professional experience working for Saudi Aramco as a Petroleum Engineer working on assignments for different organizations including reservoir management, production engineering, reservoir characterization and reservoir description. His research interests include reservoir engineering and fluid-rock interaction in tight oil reservoirs.

Carlos Correra
Petroleum engineering, CSM

Carlos Correa is a senior undergraduate student at the Petroleum Engineering Department in Colorado School of Mines. He has been awarded an undergraduate research fellowship for the 2017-2018 academic year. His research interest areas include geomechanics and reservoir characterization.

Nick Fetta
Petroleum Engineering, CSM

Nick Fetta is a Ph.D. student in Petroleum Engineering at Colorado School of Mines. He has over twenty years of experience in the oil and gas industry starting his early career assignments in Geophysics before switching over to various Petroleum Engineering (PE) positions ranging from Field Engineer to Reservoir Advisor. He has worked for WesternGeco, Scientific Software Intercomp (SSI), Wintershall, Halliburton, Eclipse, El Paso, and Noble Energy before his current affiliation with iReservoir as a Reservoir Engineering Advisor. Nick has conducted numerous integrated reservoir characterization, reservoir simulation and reservoir management studies. His extensive practical field experience covers a range of engineering positions: Production, Operations, Facilities, Reservoir, EOR, and Acquisitions & Divestiture. He is an active SPE member recently serving as chair of the SPE Forum on Exploitation of Tight Carbonates (2014) and as co-chairman of the ENGenious Young Technology Showcase (2015). Nick holds a BSc from Cardiff University, an MSc from Imperial College London and a CEng from the Energy Institute London.

Dina Hegazy
Petroleum Engineering, CSM

Dina Hegazy is a PhD student at the Petroleum Engineering Department in Colorado School of Mines. She received her BSc in Petroleum Engineering from the American University in Cairo (Egypt) and worked for Schlumberger as a production engineer for two years before pursing her graduate studies before joining the graduate program at Mines Petroleum Engineering Department and received her MS degree in PE at Mines in Spring 2017. Dina’s research interests include Numerical Simulation, Stimulation and Geomechanics.

Jyoti Swarup Singh Kanwar
Petroleum Engineering, CSM

Jyoti Swarup is an MS student and at the Petroleum Engineering Department in Colorado School of Mines. He holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from CR State Engineering College, Haryana, India and has over ten years of experience in Oil and Gas industry in Wireline and Memory Logging working for Weatherford and Halliburton in various countries including Middle East, Canada and Kazakhstan. His research interests include obtaining pore size distribution, 2-D T1-T2 mapping, saturation and wettability in shale formations using experimental high field high frequency Nuclear Magnetic Resonance.

Leonardo Arias Medina
Petroleum Engineering, CSM

Leonardo Arias Medina is an MS student in Petroleum Engineering at Colorado School of Mines. He received his Bachelor of Engineering in Petroleum Engineering from Fundacion Universidad de America in April 2017 (Colombia, Latin America). His research interests include wellbore stability, shale reservoir geomechanics, sanding, and geochemistry.

Vincent Rignol
Petroleum Engineering, CSM

Vincent Rignol is an MS student in Petroleum Engineering Department at the Colorado School of Mines. He received his B.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering in 2012 at Mines. His research interests are centered around rock-fluid interactions in fractured reservoirs, specifically looking into the proppant and fluid selection and efficiency in hydraulically fractured formations.

Mehmet Torcuk
Petroleum Engineering, CSM

Mehmet is an PhD student at the Marathon Center of Excellence for Reservoir Studies and involved in UNGI coupled fluid flow and geomechanics modeling in fractured shale reservoirs project. He has his BS in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering from Istanbul Technical University in 2010 and worked for Turkish Petroleum International Company as a production engineer for 6 months. His MS is in Petroleum Engineering from Colorado School of Mines.His research interests include unconventional fractured reservoir characterization, reservoir simulation and well test analysis.

Ilham Permata
Petroleum Engineering, CSM

Ilham Permata is an M.Sc. student in Petroleum Engineering Department at Colorado School of Mines. He received his Bachelor degree from Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology in Indonesia and worked for ICEES (Indonesia Counterpart of Energy and Environmental Solutions) as consultant. His research interest is about Geothermal Reservoir coupled with Geomechanics.

Nicholas Wehbe
Petroleum Engineering, CSM

Nicholas is an MS student in Petroleum Engineering at Colorado School of Mines. He received his BS in Petroleum Engineering in 2017 from the University of Houston. While studying for his BS, he interned as a field and reservoir engineer at Ormat Technologies Inc, and as a reservoir engineer at Lewis Energy Group. His research interests include geomechanics, rock-fluid interactions in unconventional resources, hydraulic and natural fracture simulation, and enhanced-geothermal systems.
